Two versions of the classic fairy tale "Cinderella" share the stage in Sun Prairie August 4 - 13

SUN PRAIRIE, WIS., July 10, 2023 – The classic story of Cinderella remains a timeless tale that’s been  loved by generations. And now there are two opportunities to enjoy a musical staging of this tale in early August  when Sun Prairie Civic Theatre presents both the Broadway version and the Youth Edition of Rodgers &  Hammerstein’s musical Cinderella. There are six performances of the Broadway version August 4 – 13, and three  performances of the Youth Edition August 10 – 12.

The Broadway version is a full-length musical featuring a cast of 30 teens and adults from Sun Prairie and  the greater Madison area. A contemporary retelling of the classic and timeless story, the musical showcases  Rodgers & Hammerstein’s most beloved songs plus an up-to-date, hilarious and romantic book by Tony Award  nominee Douglas Carter Beane.

Running more than 2 hours, this version is perfect for people who love the music, dancing and quick change magical transformations of the Broadway musical. Performances are August 4, 5, 11 and 12 at 7:30 p.m.,  plus August 6 and 13 at 2 p.m. General admission tickets are $20 for adults; $17 for seniors, 60 years old and over  and active military; and $15 for youth ages 18 years old or younger.

The Youth Edition is a shorter adaptation of the magical fairy tale that features an all-youth cast of 80  young actors from the greater Madison area who are entering grades 4 through 8 this fall. Featuring Rodgers and  Hammerstein’s most beloved songs, the show runs around 60 minutes. It’s perfect for young people with shorter  attention spans. Performances are August 10 at 7:30 p.m., plus August 11 and 12 at 2 p.m. General admission  tickets are $10 for all ages.

Both shows will be performed at Sun Prairie East High School’s Performing Arts Center located at 888  Grove Street in Sun Prairie.

“One of the exciting things about producing the full-length Broadway version and the Youth Edition at  the same time is the young actors will get the experience of performing on the set created for the full-length  musical,” said Sun Prairie Civic Theatre president Brian Goff. “For some of the young actors this is their first  time in a theatre production which is very exciting.”
