Puppet Master
A Glam Rock Ballet
Choreographed by Robert E. Cleary
Puppet Master will be the Ultimate Theatrical Experience in Visual Story Telling! Vibe to the Dynamic Energy of Animated Stage Lighting, Moodscapes and other Special Effects… All Synced to Creative Dance Moves and
the Powerful Beat of
Cello Metal!
October 2- 5, 2025
Thursday 7pm, Friday 7pm, Saturday 4 & 7pm, Sunday 2pm
Reception at Promenade Terrace to meet the Artists after the Friday night show
Promenade Hall, Overture Center for the Arts
Concert goers will chill and delight as they follow the tormented “Mohawk Man”, (Biker Boy), into a netherworld of enchantment and bizarre altered reality under the spell of the “Puppet Master” and alluringly freaky “China Dolls”
who hold “Biker Boy” captive.
This dance concert will teem with the decibel drive of cello metal as dancers, veiled in fantastical glam metal garb, explore cliché and the physicality of angst with movement, lightness (and a touch of ironic humor).
It’s also a great concert to let loose, have some fun and dress up as a “splashy metal star”. If so inspired, our award -winning NYC based costume designer, David Quinn, says “think spandex, leather, neon, studs, chains, sparkle, animal print, fishnet, everything too short and too tight... über make-up and hair-hair-hair!”

Kanopy is a quintessential modern dance company and resident organization at the Overture Center for the Arts. While Kanopy “informs” its works through its roots in the Martha Graham tradition, the Company has developed its own brand, shaping a fresh dimension and visual language to advance modern dance. Kanopy’s artistic directors, Robert E. Cleary and Lisa Thurrell, have created dynamic new artistic benchmarks in the field by training professional dancers, choreographing new works and collaborating with internationally recognized guest artists. In addition to presenting an annual season of concerts at its home stage at the Overture Center, Kanopy undertakes select touring engagements in Chicago, Minneapolis and New York City, and participates in outreach programs throughout the region.
In 2024, Kanopy was one of only six companies word-wide vetted in observing “GRAHAM100,” a three-season celebration of Martha Graham Dance Company’s 100th Anniversary, with our production of Graham: In HER Voice.
In the fall of 2024, the New York Public Library for the Performing Arts filmed
Kanopy’s production of Polaris at the Overture Center featuring celebrated guest artists Daystar/Rosalie Jones, founder of the first indigenous modern dance company in the U.S.,
Daystar: Contemporary Dance Drama of Indian America, and Daniel Fetecua Soto, former soloist, Limón Dance Company, for inclusion in the prestigious Jerome Robbins Dance Division Archives. located in Lincoln Center.
Kanopy 2 is Kanopy’s studio company and pre-professional training program, and Kanopy’s Dance Academy offers classes and summer intensives taught by a renowned faculty at the Kanopy Center for Modern and Contemporary Dance.
