If you didn't know, Benjamin (the Mad's Theatre creator) has a degree in Mathematics and is a little bit of a stats nerd. It was a priority from the start to incorporate Google Analytics into the core of the site to understand just how it is performing (😜) out there in the wild.
Between Mad's Theatre being formally announced on August 25th and September 25th, we've had:
382 Total Users*
830 Total Sessions
5,119 Total Views
Of course, the home page is the most visited page. But the next most visited pages are:
madstheatre.com/productions with 71 Users, 161 Sessions, and 361 Views
madstheatre.com/information with 61 Users, 125 Sessions, and 223 Views
madstheatre.com/auditions with 74 Users, 132 Sessions, and 200 Views
madstheatre.com/news-reviews with 45 Users, 106 Sessions, and 175 Views
madstheatre.com/newsletters with 17 Users, 59 Sessions, and 127 Views
madstheatre.com/audition/137/auditions-the-panto-lorian with 37 Users, 50 Sessions, and 68 Views
Google also provides us with info on how our website is performing in their search engine. For a brand new website, it's pretty good!
393 Total Impressions
37 Total Clicks
9.4% CTR (Click-Through Rate)
An Average Position of 23.1
That CTR is important! For Google, high Click-Through Rates (generally over 5%) are a very positive indication of the quality of a website and they will start to inch that site higher in the results. Good SEO (Search Engine Optimization) implementation in the underlying data/HTML of a site is important, but Google has gotten really good at judging website quality based on actual human interactions; something far more important than any SEO implementation.
What are some things that could be better? One key metric for a website is called a Bounce Rate, or the rate at which users first access a page and then leave the page without looking at any other pages. Our home page Bounce Rate is OK at 43.0%. Ideally, you want that number to be as low as possible to get users to explore the website. However, the home page is meant to be quick and glanceable. It is completely understandable that folks will pull up the home page, see what's happening, and leave. That was kind of the point! Either way, this is absolutely one of the key measures we'll be keeping a close eye on to better understand and balance what best serves the Madison area performing arts community.
One of the services that we'll provide (on request) to every individual that creates their content on Mad's Theatre is a summary of their page(s) performance. How many views happened yesterday? Where are the referrals coming from? What is the trend of Sessions over time? To start that conversation, don't hesitate to reach out!
*Because this site is intended to service the greater Madison area, all statistics are filtered for traffic that Google Analytics has determined to be from Wisconsin.
Statistics updated for September 25th.
