Audition: The Misanthrope by Moliere

Audition Preparation: Please prepare a 1-minute cut of a comedic monologue with an emphasis on quick 
speaking. You may also choose to read some pre-selected excerpts from the play. These will be “cold”
(unrehearsed) readings.
NOTE: While the gender of the characters is set, casting will be fluid and anyone may audition for any 
character. 
Production Notes: The play explores the conflict between individual integrity and the necessity of social convention, 
with Alceste portrayed as both a noble truth-seeker and a ridiculous, self-absorbed fool. One of the female characters is 
referred to as a prude. There is some slight intimacy between two of the characters (male & female) that may involve a 
kiss. 
Rehearsals: Rehearsals will be held M-F between 7 PM and 10 PM. Actors will be called based on the availability that is 
recorded on their audition forms. 
Required Dates: All actors must be available for the following dates and times: Tech 
rehearsals & Performances: 9/18 1-10 PM, 9/20 1-10 PM, 9/21-9/25 6-10 PM, 9/26 11:30AM-10 PM
