Audition: The Threepenny Opera by Bertolt Brecht & Kurt Weill

On January 11th & 12th, 2026, Mercury Players will hold auditions for their production of The Threepenny Opera at the Bartell Theatre, 113 E Mifflin St Madison. Callbacks will be held on January 13.

Auditions are 7-9pm. Please arrive on time!

Be ready to communicate any scheduling conflicts between Feb 15-May 9.

Rehearsals begin the end of February.

Be ready to do some movement.

Be ready to sing a minute from a song that showcases your range. It can be any genre of music, but please pick something with a karaoke track on youtube 

All roles are available, to all and everyone.

Also this is not actually an opera so, a) you don’t actually need to be an opera singer b) unlike opera there are speaking roles too, c) in summation: it’s a musical with opera in the title but it is not an opera

Macheath, “Mac the Knife” - masc, tenor (Ab), 30-50; a notorious gang leader terrorizing London

JJ Peachum- masc, tenor (F), 35-70; proprietor of a shop for beggars and the father of Polly

Celia Peachum- fem, alto (E), 35-70; Polly’s mother and #1 Mac hater, she helps bring about his doom

Polly Peachum- fem, soprano (F#), 20-30; Mac’s latest bride, innocent but learning quick

Sheriff Tiger Brown- masc, baritone (D), 30-50; Mac’s best friend and protector, doesn’t know who’s sleeping with his daughter

Lucy Brown- fem, soprano (F#) 18-25; also in a situationship with Mac and ‘pregnant’, o and she’s Mac’s best friend’s daughter

SpelunkenJenny- any, 40-60, alto (D); head prostitute, yes also situationy with Mac
