Music Theatre of Madison celebrates 20th anniversary with LGBTQ-themed musical Trevor.
May 21, 2026–For immediate release–Music Theatre of Madison, a professional musical theatre
company focusing on the new and different in musical theatre, will celebrate its 20th anniversary with
its first show in the Overture Center: Trevor. Performances are August 14, 15, 20, 21, and 22 at
7:30pm and August 16 at 2:00pm in the Overture Center Playhouse, 201 State Street. Tickets are
available at overture.org. The piece, a Wisconsin premiere, is written by Julianne Wick Davis and
Dan Collins.
It’s 1981 in America, and Trevor Nelson is busy navigating adolescence in suburbia while dreaming
of a life in show business. When a humiliating and cruel incident at school suddenly puts him in the
wrong spotlight, Trevor must summon the courage to forge his own path. Based on the film that
inspired the Trevor Project, this deeply moving and funny story of self-discovery and the power of
acceptance is about living your best life with a ton of passion... and a touch of pizzazz.
“We wanted to do something really celebratory for our 20th anniversary, but still stick to our mission
of introducing unusual, thought-provoking musicals,” says Meghan Randolph, MTM’s Founder and
Executive Director. “Trevor runs the gamut from heartwrenching to utterly joyous, and we are excited
to share that with Madison.”
“This is also the most youth-driven musical we’ve ever done,” Randolph continues. “Sixteen roles for
youth aged 11-18, and they really carry the show.” Because of this, MTM has hired educators as
Director (Paul Milisch), Choreographer (Katrina Brunner), Music Director (Lisa Erdman), Stage
Manager (Kristen Emery), Outreach Director (Lindsey Hoel-Neds) and Youth Coach (TBD). “I know it
was important that we have trained, supportive educators if we were going to do this correctly,” says
Randolph.
The TREVOR cast features Chase Schutte as Trevor, Isabel Nesseim as Diana Ross, Blithe
Matthews as Cathy, Matthew Juergens as Walter, Brock Johnson as Pinky, Ailin Cobo-Sanchez as
Frannie, Caroline Juergens as Mary, Gavin Krueger as Jason, Paul Lorentz as Dad/Pastor, Liz
Griffith as Mom/Teacher, Brandon Aroonsavath as Jack, and Ginn Saari-Pausch, James Donovan
House, Liam Hoyt, Mazi Dossa, Noah Allison, Lillian Blake, Elouise Clickner, Avery Aroonsavath,
Rune Balge, and Sequoia Fagan-Kessler in the ensemble and as understudies.
The performance is sponsored by the Fund for Theater, a component fund of the Madison
